Foundation trains blind persons on bead-making
Traditional rulers who love adorning their regalia with beads can now
acquire these in Abia State, as some blind persons trained in the art by
a non-governmental organisation, Hannah May Foundation, established and
facilitated by Chief Mrs. Mercy Odochi Orji, wife of ex-governor, Chief
Theodore Orji, currently the senator for Abia Central.
The blind persons under the aegis of National Association for the Blind
(NAB) at the Umuahia Special School for the Blind acquired the art of
bead and soap-making at a two-week intensive training.
The Foundation has also provided them with the necessary raw materials
for making the beads and soap, with the expectation that they will be
selling the items, while using the soap for their needs. The Guardian
gathered that traditional rulers in the state have already declared
interest in the beads, as samples have been shown them.
